Char Dham Overview
The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most sacred and significant pilgrimages in India, located
in the beautiful state of Uttarakhand. It covers four holy shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri,
Kedarnath, and Badrinath — each holding immense religious importance for Hindus. Every year,
millions of devotees embark on this divine journey seeking spiritual purification and
ultimate salvation (moksha).
The yatra traditionally begins at Yamunotri, the source of the revered Yamuna River.
Pilgrims offer prayers at the Yamunotri Temple and bathe in the sacred hot springs nearby,
believed to cleanse sins. The journey then moves to Gangotri, where the holy Ganges River
descended to Earth. The Gangotri Temple stands as a symbol of purity and devotion.
Next, pilgrims visit Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, located amidst
the majestic snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas. Kedarnath is known for its spiritual aura and
breathtaking surroundings. Finally, the journey concludes at Badrinath, dedicated to Lord
Vishnu. Nestled between Nar and Narayan mountain ranges, Badrinath Temple is a beacon of
